The Climate Justice Initiative

The global climate system should work for both people and the planet. We support emerging and established coalitions in the climate action space to enhance collaboration, both between their members and with other coalitions.
Advance Climate Justice Solutions

We foster a shared understanding of the system in which the work of climate action coalitions is embedded and facilitate discussions on pathways to change that prioritize locally led action with the potential for global impact.

COP29 in 2024 ended with a shared understanding that the global climate architecture is broken. Considering the outcomes of the process and the withdrawal of key players from the Paris Declaration, we need a different approach to elevate local voices and engage them in action, offering new perspectives on how to tackle climate change.

Over the next couple of years, in partnership with the Centre for Public Impact and others, we will be informing and connecting existing coalitions working to shift power dynamics in climate negotiations.

Convenings of diverse stakeholders and coalitions’ representatives will focus on solutions to roadblocks challenges in influencing climate negotiations.

The effort will include a small fund to test some of the ideas collaboratively generated by participants in the cohort.

Participating coalitions will benefit from the learning and strategies built, but also the connections to supporters and allies; as well as opportunities to influence the system created through the Governance Explorers’ Network.

We will start with a focus on Latin America in the lead-up to COP30 in Belém, Brazil, but progressively expand our scope and outreach to Africa and Asia.

Check back on this page regularly to see updates on this journey.
