Local Coalitions for Local Solutions

Our in-country work focuses on ways to bring together local stakeholders who may not agree on many things, but who are all important in making change happen. We also connect action and learning between national-level actors and the work at the local level, fostering coalitions around shared goals.

What we do

Under our Local Coalitions for Local Solutions exploration, we first identify national or subnational processes or initiatives that offer opportunities for more active engagement from diverse stakeholders to overcome concrete challenges in the pursuit of a shared objective. In every country or group of countries, our activities then contribute to an ecosystem that promotes the generation, implementation and sustainability of solutions that are locally-owned.

  • In Colombia, we are supporting coalition-building around the government’s Energy Communities initiative at the national level, and multistakeholder coalitions for action at the local level in La Guajira and Cesar departments.
  • In Peru, with partners we are exploring a new model for subnational-level governance that better uses public resources, particularly mining revenue, in the implementation of regional development plans, starting in the regions of Moquegua and Cajamarca.
  • In the Philippines, an analysis of entry points to identify how we can add value in addressing critical governance challenges is underway.

How we work

Our model of fostering and supporting coalitions for change is inspired by the work of The Asia Foundation and the Center for Public Innovation, among others. We want to show what is possible through collaboration approaches that are adapted to context. Learn more about our approach.
