For several years, the Association for Integrated Development and Interactive Solidarity (ADISI-Cameroun) has campaigned for the defense of human rights, particularly regarding access to information and freedom of expression.

Paul-Joel Kamtchang, the Executive Secretary of ADISI-CAMEROUN shares how civil society groups and good governance advocates can engage citizens in public policy at the local or community level. He believes “real democracy begins at the local level” and “citizens cannot engage in governance if they are not aware or allowed to participate in what is happening in their society and how they can take an active part in the elaboration or conception of public policy”.

Paul-Joel says ensuring that information and data are available and accessible to all will be key to ensuring citizen’s active participation in governance policy and promoting good governance.
