Privacy Policy
This is the privacy policy for the Governance Action Hub (collectively referred to as “the Hub”, “we”, “us” or “our” in this policy), a program under the Accountability and Citizen Engagement Program at the Results for Development. We are committed to fostering governance action and reform in the pursuit of common goals by local stakeholders with different perspectives, through the exploration of problem-driven collaborative approaches and of mechanisms to coordinate local and global action.
The Governance Action Hub respects your privacy and is committed to keeping your personal data safe. This Policy explains when and why we collect personal information about people who visit our portal, how we use it, the conditions under which we may disclose it to others and how we keep it secure.
We may change this Policy from time to time so please check this page occasionally to ensure that you’re aware of any changes. By using our portal, you’re agreeing to be bound by this Policy.

How do we collect information from you?
We obtain information about you when you use our portal, for example, when you subscribe to receive one of our email newsletters or announcements or if you access information we post about our programs.
What type of data do we collect about you?
The personal information we collect might include your name, address, email address, IP address, and information regarding what pages are accessed and when. Personal data, or personal information, means any information about an individual from which that person can be identified. It does not include data from which the identity has been removed (anonymous data).
We may collect, use, store and transfer the following different kinds of personal data about you:
- Identity Data can include first name, and last name, country of work or residence.
- Contact Data includes business/personal email address and telephone numbers.
- CV Data includes, for example, your employment and education history data, your academic qualifications and your interests as they may appear on a CV or other media.
- Image Data includes photographs and videos of you.
- Research Subject Data may include Identity Data, Contact Data, CV Data, and Image Data.
- IP Address Data includes your internet protocol address.
We may also collect the following types of Special Category Data from Research Subjects: racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious of philosophical beliefs and health data.
How is your information used?
Any personal information that you provide to us will be used only for the following purposes:
- Process your entry into a competition;
- Seek your views or comments;
- Notify you of changes to our services;
- Provide information or services to you as requested by you;
- Improve the content of the portal;
- Customize the content and /or layout of the portal for each individual user;
- Notify users about updates to the portal;
- Send you information about the Hub or communications which you have requested and that may be of interest to you. These may include information about campaigns, appeals, or relevant work from our projects and partners.
- Compile and disclose statistics about our users and their preferences (see our explanation of Google Analytics). However, these statistics are anonymous and do not identify individual users.
Who has access to your information?
We will not sell or rent your information to third parties.
We will not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
We will not pass any of your personal information to any third party, other than members of R4D, without your consent.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our portal (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). The portal administrators can also see and edit that information.
Your legal rights over your data
Under certain circumstances, you have rights under data protection laws in relation to your data. You have the right to:
- Request access to your personal data (commonly known as a “data subject access request”). This enables you to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you and to check that we are lawfully processing it.
- Request correction of the personal data that we hold about you. This enables you to have any incomplete or inaccurate data we hold about you corrected, though we may need to verify the accuracy of the new data you provide to us.
- Request erasure of your personal data. This enables you to ask us to delete or remove personal data where there is no good reason for us continuing to process it. You also have the right to ask us to delete or remove your personal data where you have successfully exercised your right to object to processing (see below), where we may have processed your information unlawfully or where we are required to erase your personal data to comply with local law. Note, however, that we may not always be able to comply with your request of erasure for specific legal reasons which will be notified to you, if applicable, at the time of your request.
- Withdraw consent at any time where we are relying on consent to process your personal data. However, this will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdraw your consent. If you withdraw your consent, we may not be able to provide certain products or services to you. We will advise you if this is the case at the time you withdraw your consent.

Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors engage with our portal and content. This helps us create reports and statistics on the performance of the portal. The information we collect includes your location, IP address, device type, and the URLs of the pages you are visiting. If you prefer not to have your activity tracked by Google Analytics, you can opt out by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on provided by Google.
Profiling
We may analyze your personal information to create a profile of your interests and preferences so that we can contact you with information relevant to you. We may make use of additional information about you when it is available from external sources to help us do this effectively. We may also use your personal information to detect and reduce fraud and credit risk.
Your choices (opting-out)
You have a choice about whether or not you wish to receive information from us. If you do not want to receive direct communications from us about the vital work in which the Hub engages, then you can select your choices by ticking the relevant boxes situated on the form on which we collect your information.
We will not contact you for marketing purposes by email, phone or text message unless you have given your prior consent. We will not contact you for marketing purposes by post if you have indicated that you do not wish to be contacted. You can change your marketing preferences at any time by contacting us by email: govactionhub@r4d.org.
Change of purpose
We will only use your personal data for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose. If you would like an explanation as to how the processing for the new purpose is compatible with the original purpose, please contact us.
If we need to use your personal data for an unrelated purpose, we will notify you and we will explain the legal basis which allows us to do so.
Please note that we may process your personal data without your knowledge or consent, in compliance with the above rules, where this is required or permitted by law.
Links to other websites
Our portal may contain links to other portal or websites run by other organizations. This Privacy Policy applies only to our portal‚ so we encourage you to read the privacy statements on the other websites you visit. We cannot be responsible for the privacy policies and practices of other sites even if you access them using links from our portal.
In addition, if you linked to our portal from a third party site, we cannot be responsible for the privacy policies and practices of the owners and operators of that third party site and recommend that you check the policy of that third party site.
16 or Under
The privacy of children aged 16 or under is very important to us. If you are aged 16 or under‚ please get your parent/guardian’s permission before you provide us with personal information.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Cookies
Like many other websites, the Governance Action Hub portal uses cookies. ‘Cookies’ are small pieces of information sent by an organization to your computer and stored on your hard drive to allow that website to recognize you when you visit. They collect statistical data about your browsing actions and patterns and do not identify you as an individual. For example, we use cookies to store the pages you may visit. This helps us to improve our portal and deliver a better and more personalized service.
