Emilie Fokkelman

Emilie Fokkelman (she/her) is the Senior Knowledge Manager of the Governance Action Hub at R4D. She works on knowledge management, community management, and communications. She has over 14 years of experience working on governance and sustainable development initiatives in international organizations and nonprofits. Her areas of expertise are knowledge capture and dissemination, communities of practice and learning, and writing. Emilie is motivated by the desire for people to gain more knowledge and connections with one another, thereby improving the way decisions are made. She is fluent in Dutch and Spanish and speaks some French, German and Italian, something she likes using in order to connect with people.

While working with R4D, she was also a fundraising consultant with HVFC International, where she advised nonprofits around the world on strategies for fundraising for impact. Prior to this, she worked at the World Bank’s Global Partnership for Social Accountability as a communications and knowledge management officer.

Beyond work, Emilie teaches at the Dutch School of Bethesda, Maryland and is involved in a number of environmental stewardship initiatives in the area. She also enjoys pilates, bike riding and baking with her kids.
