Mario Huapaya

Location: Lima, Perú
Mario Huapaya coordinates GAH’s operations in Peru and connects the organization with key public and private stakeholders to identify synergies and implement high-impact initiatives in territorial development—especially at the subnational level in regions with significant mining and energy investments such as Cajamarca, Moquegua, Pasco, and Cusco.
He brings over 15 years of professional experience in natural resource governance and in strengthening public-private ecosystems and partnerships, having worked across international cooperation, the public sector, and private industry. Mario is a lawyer with an MPA and an LL.M, and he complements his academic profile through teaching in graduate programs at Peruvian universities and publishing research in specialized platforms.
“I work in governance—particularly to promote dialogue in the extractive industries—because I have a strong personal commitment and vocation to support sustainable development in my region. I firmly believe that mining can be an opportunity, but only if managed inclusively, responsibly, and through collaborative action.”
In his free time, Mario enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, swimming, and singing karaoke.
