State Capture Matters: A research article and associated dataset and index

HOW YOU CAN USE THIS RESOURCE: Policymakers, governance experts, and anti-corruption organizations can use this article to understand how the State Capture Index can be used to assess risks, inform reform strategies, and guide multi-stakeholder efforts to address undue influence in governance.

OVERVIEW:  This article provides an overview the evolution of the concept of state capture, presents a global State Capture Index which captures data from 172 countries over nearly 30 years, and highlights the differences between state capture and traditional corruption. The findings support the Governance Action Hub’s work on identifying priority actions for governance reform and links to the State Capture Index’s dataset in Excel format for further analysis.
