OVERVIEW:  This article, written by Daniel Kaufmann, provides an overview the evolution of the concept of state capture, presents a global State Capture Index which includes data from 172 countries over nearly three decades, and highlights the differences between state capture and traditional corruption. The findings support the Governance Action Hub’s work on identifying priority actions for governance reform and links to the State Capture Index’s dataset in Excel format for further analysis. The article also includes an extensive bibliography with writings on the topic from scholars around the world.
